(February 22, 2022) – Phoenix, AZ. Charity Storage, the official charity of the self storage industry and charity partner of the Self Storage Association (SSA), announced significant charity auction results for 2021. The year marked 10 years of giving through the Charity Storage program and the numbers show operators continue to step up to support causes in their communities. Through nearly 500 charity auctions, self storage operators joined together to raise $111,671.04 for organizations across the nation.

Charity Storage unites operators, charities, and resources to help self storage industry members maximize their impact for causes that matter to them. From raising money for cancer research and helping improve access to education to fighting to end domestic abuse and supporting those impacted by homelessness, the Charity Storage community took action to address critical needs. With its focus on local, operator-driven giving, Charity Storage helped facilities strengthen connections with their community and create change in their own backyard.

The milestone year also brought structural changes to the non-profit, including the addition of new leadership, the relocation of the organization’s headquarters to Phoenix, AZ, and an expanded donor relationship with OpenTech Alliance. The shifts provide added infrastructure and support for self storage partners in the program.

Mario Macaluso, Program Manager, and Katie Tompulis, Marketing Assistant, have enthusiastically stepped in to help educate operators on the program and support their efforts to raise funds for local charities. This support includes establishing multiple ways for facilities to give back to their charity of choice, including round up programs, donation of non-lien unit sales, participation in Amazon Smile, and more.

About Charity Storage

The official charity of the self storage industry, Charity Storage is an independent 501(c)3 that helps operators utilize self storage auctions to raise money for charitable causes. Participating facilities establish donation drop-off centers at their storage facilities and work hard to engage their community to collect donations and raise funds for local non-profits through their storage auctions. 90% of all funds raised are distributed to qualifying charitable organizations (60% to the charity chosen by the operator/facility; 20% to Kure It Cancer Research; and 10% to the Self Storage Association Foundation (SSAF) Scholarship Program).
