(August 10, 2021) – Phoenix, AZ.  Charity Storage, the official charity of the self storage industry and official charity partner of the Self Storage Association, announced a reorganization of the nonprofit’s operating structure and key leadership changes that went into effect on June 1.

“With both sadness and gratitude, we must announce the resignation of Kerry Henriksen as Executive Director and Mariela Pattinson as Director of Marketing and Development for Charity Storage,” stated Robert Chiti, Charity Storage BOD Chairman. “Today’s announcement marks a reorganization that will position Charity Storage for continued success — building on the legacy the existing team has worked so hard to create. These shifts represent a critical step to streamline our operations in a way that will enhance our ability to maximize funds raised for local charities and achieve our goal of becoming a self-sustainable organization. In addition, we have strengthened our ability to support the success of participating self storage operations.”

During their tenure, Kerry and Mariela built important strategic partnerships with industry members, helped establish and improve organizational processes and dedicated countless hours to the advancement of charitable causes nationwide. The past leadership team leaves Charity Storage in a strong position for continued growth, and the nonprofit sincerely thanks Kerry and Mariela for their contribution and dedication to this cause.

Mario Macaluso, a current board member and longtime industry veteran, has stepped in to serve as Program Manager and help educate and enroll self storage operators on to the program. As the founder of Best Self Storage Insurance and a founding member of SBOA Tenant Insurance, Mario brings a passion for philanthropy and intimate understanding of the self storage industry to the role. “Though my time on the board has been limited, my passion for Charity Storage was immediate,” stated Macaluso. “As a member of this community, I know how fortunate we are to operate in a ‘recession-proof’ industry. Charity Storage is an easy way for operators to pass that good fortune along — and have a direct impact in the communities and to the local causes that matter to their team.”

In addition to leadership changes, the nonprofit has expanded their donor relationship with OpenTech Alliance, which has recruited additional dedicated staff to provide infrastructure, accounting and additional marketing capacity in support of the organization’s charitable causes. As part of this transition, Charity Storage headquarters will be housed within the OpenTech Alliance corporate office in Phoenix, AZ.
